As Michael Lind declared in The Next American Nation: “We Americans. . . are defined by a common language and culture; and as long as these unite us, we will constitute an ethnocultural nation, no matter what the composition of our gene pool, no matter what the political entity in which our people reside, or what its ultimate borders might be. There was an American cultural nation on the Atlantic seaboard before there was a republic called the United States; and, we may hope, there will be a flourishing American cultural nation in its North American homeland when the US Constitution has long been scrapped or amended beyond recognition.”
